Cobb Salad has been a favorite this summer... with many fresh ingredients from home

He's ready to cut, cook, & eat this big one

a little lightening bug magic... something I missed while we lived in Florida
love the rural life :)

Summer crafting

more dinners in season
I'm always amazed at what a little salt/pepper, garlic, & onion will do to about any veg.

our mystery compost garden turned out to be several butternut squash and several spaghetti squash.
We just ate our last spaghetti squash... I will have to plant more next year now that I know they grow so easily.

This is the ONLY pepper that I grew this year. However, now that the zuc has died back the little bush looks healthier than ever & just might give us a couple more before fall.

This is about 2/3 of our potato harvest.  The patch grew out of control quickly and I wasn't sure how they would turn out, but we've eaten several & the Yukon Gold variety is great, almost creamy.

We have gotten buckets & buckets of tomatoes... more than we could eat.  I'd say they were very successful.  I only used our compost for fertilizer, which was composed of wood ash, chicken poop, leaves, weeds, & kitchen veg scraps.

We've gotten about 3 harvests of okra.

We got a good basket full of carrots.  They were weird in shape & size.  I will have to read up on them more.  We gave most of them to the chickens, who enjoyed them greatly.

A total failure, was the pumpkin patch.  I was probably most excited about the pumpkins.  I could tell they were not going to make it early on.  Now, having done a bit more research, I will attempt again.  Maybe next year Ella! ( we were growing her birthday cake pumpkin)

So, I'm still getting tomatoes, a few okra, & perhaps we'll see another pepper before its all over, but other than that I'd say this garden is finished.  It has been such a delightful learning experience.  The children have looked forward to each harvest almost as much as I have.  Summer 2012 has been good to our table!
