Spring in Alabama

  • We purchased a lawn mower and cut the grass today for the first time in what feels like decades... first time since we moved in, in September... also first time since we moved away 6 years ago... felt good.
  • We have a delightful mother bird sitting on eggs under our carport roof. She is in the p.e.r.f.e.c.t. spot for all of us to watch her from the window as she daily built and added to her nest until it was just right and now, she is sitting all day with only moments to swoop down to grab food then directly back on her eggs. We can't wait to see and hear her babies. Her nest will become part of our nature box once they fly away.
  • I killed a little brown snake in the back yard... I tried to save it (alive) for the kids to keep a bit, but it was rascal.
  • We have yet to turn on the air conditioning (even in record highs for March)... this has not happened in 6 years as well!!! Really like the windows open and breezes through the house.
  • I have started a garden... I see zucchini sprouts already.
  • Pollen, caterpillars, bugs of all kinds, flowers, and green... everywhere I look.
  • The cool smells of a new season have encouraged me to get out of bed and walk the roads early and peaceful.

Big & Delicious

I was thrilled to harvest this...
Our first double yoke egg
A newer custom around here has been hot tea with our breakfast and afternoon snack, after quiet time. Favorites are Raspberry Zinger and Honey Vanilla Chamomile.

Making eggnog that calls for a dozen & homemade vanilla blueberry pudding that calls for half a dozen. But no one is tired of plain scrambled in the cast iron yet.
I really am enjoying a daily fresh supply of eggs.
